Installation
Install the Stellar MCP Plugins from source using Cargo. Both plugins install globally to ~/.cargo/bin/ and are available system-wide as Stellar CLI plugins.
After installation, the CLIs are available globally — no need to be inside the project directory. Run stellar mcp --help or stellar policy --help from anywhere.
Installing stellar-mcp-generator
The MCP generator creates MCP servers from deployed Soroban contracts.
Clone the Repository
git clone https://github.com/JoseCToscano/stellar-mcp
cd stellar-mcp/stellar-mcp-generatorInstall via Cargo
cargo install --path .This compiles the plugin and installs it as a Stellar CLI plugin.
Verify Installation
stellar mcp --helpYou should see the MCP generator help output.
Installing stellar-policy-cli
The Policy CLI generates policy-enforced smart contracts via an interactive wizard.
Clone the Repository
git clone https://github.com/JoseCToscano/stellar-mcp
cd stellar-mcp/stellar-policy-cliInstall via Cargo
cargo install --path .Verify Installation
stellar policy --helpYou should see the Policy CLI help output.
Both Plugins Installed
After installing both plugins, verify they appear in the plugin list:
stellar plugins --listExpected output:

policyInstallation Locations
The plugins are installed globally to your Cargo bin directory:
# Default location
~/.cargo/bin/stellar-mcp
~/.cargo/bin/stellar-policy
# Check your Cargo bin path
echo $HOME/.cargo/binThese binaries are automatically detected by the Stellar CLI as plugins. You can also run them directly:
# As Stellar CLI plugins (recommended)
stellar mcp generate --help
stellar policy wizard --help
# Or as standalone binaries
stellar-mcp generate --help
stellar-policy wizard --helpUpdating Plugins
To update a plugin to the latest version:
# Pull latest changes
cd stellar-mcp
git pull origin main
# Reinstall MCP generator
cd stellar-mcp-generator
cargo install --path . --force
# Reinstall Policy CLI
cd ../stellar-policy-cli
cargo install --path . --forceThe --force flag overwrites the existing installation.
Uninstalling Plugins
To remove a plugin:
# Remove MCP generator
cargo uninstall stellar-mcp
# Remove Policy CLI
cargo uninstall stellar-policyBuild from a Specific Branch
If you need a specific version:
git clone https://github.com/JoseCToscano/stellar-mcp
cd stellar-mcp
git checkout feature/some-branch
